LETTER OF REGISTERING DISPLEASURE BY KATSINA STATE NANNM CHAPTER
Federal Medical Center Katsina,
LETTER OF REGISTERING DISPLEASURE
It has come to the notice of NANNM Katsina State on the glaring display of bias you have shown to Nurses and Nursing as a profession, this has been seen to have manifested in the various ways you have been seen to handle issues related to Nurses and Nursing profession since you came into power as the Medical Director of this institution, at the moment it is seen to be so glaring that even the blind can see through your intrinsic motives of relegating an independent profession (Nursing) to the background in our health sector.
Nursing as a profession is an independent profession just as the Medicine you practice, in as much as we have been ignoring some of your policies and directives aimed at crippling our collective efforts to put in our best in uplifting the quality of care we render to our teaming clients in this institution for the purpose of maintaining peace and harmonious relationship currently existing among Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
To our dismay, we woke up to yet another directive from you, mandating Nurses to be subjects to Medical Doctors in their administrative duties, not to be outdone yet, you also ordered that Nurses night duties rooms in the Emergency Paediatric unit, Accident and Emergency unit and host of other units be taken from Nurses and turned to Doctors resting rooms.
It is pathetic that while we turn deaf ears to the break in by a newly recruited Consultant on your order into the office of an ADNS where the said consultant occupied said office and no iota of compensation was made to the affected party who had some of his personal items been damaged and lost in that process. It is also quite unfortunate that under your watch the Nurses callrooms could be likened to condemned criminal cells while their Medical counterpart’s callrooms can be likened to that of kings palace across the Hospital.
The load that literally broke the camels back in a way of speaking was your last order mandating Nurses to report directly to medical doctors in our various units while applying for annual leaves, maternity leaves, sick leaves and so on, to bypass their Incharges, Supervisors and the HOD Nursing shows a gross lack of managerial skills that is core demands of the office you are occupying, when you said that annual performance and evaluation report should now be subjected to approval by the Doctors who are not directly working with the Nurses before you grant it attention it deserves shows the Lacuna in your managerial skills of personnel resources.
I wish to use this medium to inform you that your actions has jeopardized the current harmonious working relationships and alliance between NANNM and NMA thereby creating tension and renew rivalry among the members of the two professions.
In view of the above, we demands the following conditions within 48hours in order to guarantees harmonious relationships
1. We demand a letter of apology, because your action is an insult to the entire Nurses worldwide.
2. That you issue a circular for the status quo to be maintained and rescind your decision.
3. Nurses Offices and night duties rooms which was forcefully taken from the Nurses should be returned back to them with immediate effects.
4. Befitting and well equip call rooms should be provided to the Nurses who are on call duties as it is done to their Medical colleagues.
5. Offices should be provided to Nurses in all units where Nurses does not have any.
In the absence of any of the above condition, we shall be afraid to guaranteed industrial harmony.
